GAD, the Egyptian food chain, is easily the biggest and most popular place to eat in Cairo. Situated on Cairo’s busy and crowded 26th of July Street, downstairs is open onto the street and is the restaurants ‘fast food’ section. With smiling cooks on view, making their speciality; an Egyptian dough (pizza style) which is folded, and inbetween the layers is filled with anything from meat, chicken, falafel and vegetables.
To eat at GAD really is to eat where the locals do. With big, filling meals, a great atmosphere, the rush for dinner is around 12am, the normal dinner time in Egypt.
